Frequently Asked Questions
We take a fully conversational approach. Here are the questions we hear most often from people exploring what Link Wealth can do for them.
-
What is the difference between retirement planning and investment management?
Retirement planning is the big-picture strategy - when you can retire, how much income you will need, and where it will come from. Investment management is how we handle your portfolio to support that plan. The two work together, and we do both - which means your investments are always aligned with your retirement goals, not managed in isolation.
-
When is the best time to claim Social Security?
It depends on your situation - your health, your other income, whether you are married, and when you need the income. Claiming early gives you more years of payments but at a lower monthly amount. Waiting increases your monthly benefit but requires other income in the meantime. We run the analysis for your specific circumstances and help you choose the timing that makes the most sense for your life.
-
How is your investment approach different from what a big firm would do?
Large firms typically place clients into pre-built model portfolios based on risk tolerance. We manage individual accounts, which means every decision is made with your specific situation in mind - your tax picture, your timeline, your goals. We also actively manage those accounts, which means we are paying attention and making adjustments, not just holding a static allocation.
-
Does tax planning mean I need a separate accountant?
Not necessarily. We handle investment-related tax strategy - Roth conversions, withdrawal sequencing, asset location, and rollover planning. For filing your returns, we work collaboratively with your CPA or tax advisor if you have one, or we can refer you to someone. The goal is to make sure your investment decisions and your tax strategy are working together.
-
How do you get paid, and how do I know you are working in my interest?
We operate as a fiduciary, which means we are legally and ethically required to act in your best interest at all times. We are transparent about how we are compensated and will never recommend something because it pays us more. You deserve to know exactly how the relationship works - and we will tell you before we ever start working together.
-
How often will we review my plan?
At minimum, annually - but more often when something significant changes. We also stay in touch throughout the year through weekly blogs, monthly educational videos, and regular phone check-ins. If markets shift, your life situation changes, or an opportunity arises, we will reach out. You will never be left wondering what is happening with your plan.
